PACK LIST


The Marriage Challenge has some required equipment, nothing more, nothing less. DO NOT overpack. We encourage you to borrow the needed equipment if you do not have some items.

4MUS will supply all food and drinks on the trail. Firearms are not allowed under any circumstance.

When you arrive at the parking lot, you will have one large backpack (or duffle bag) AND a smaller daypack. Arrive ready to hike with bags packed. There are no restroom facilities at the meeting location. 


PLEASE NOTE: ALL items marked with an * should be in your daypack upon arrival. Make sure all other items are in your large backpack or duffle bag. Please keep your packing simple and stick to the packing list, No more and No less. You will carry your daypack with you throughout the weekend, which includes 7-9 miles of hiking.


Logistics

  • 4M will transport your large backpacks/duffle to the camp site. If possible, place tent inside one of your large backpacks/duffle.
  • Look to borrow needed equipment. We don’t want the Marriage Challenge to be a financial challenge.
  • Cell Phone (Keep your cell phones deep in your daypack - keep your focus on each other.)
  • Jewelry and other valuables are not needed, leave items of value at home.
  • A watch is allowed for time keeping only - please turn all notifications off. 
  • Your car will be parked off-site and not supervised. Please do not leave valuables in your car
  • Firearms, tobacco products, alcohol, and cameras are not allowed under any circumstance.

All items listed below are per person unless stated otherwise.

Luggage

  • Daypack (20-25 liters)
  • Backpack or duffle bag (70-90 liters) - (not a suitcase)


DOCUMENTS

(waterproof packed)

  • ID/driver’s license
  • Insurance card
  • I.C.E. (in case of emergency) home number or another contact person


CLOTHES

IMPORTANT—Check local temperatures and adjust your pack accordingly. 

 

  • 1-2 pair pants/shorts for hiking 
  • 1 additional Shorts/Pants and T-shirt
  • 2-3 long and/or short sleeve shirts
  • Sweatshirt and/or jacket*
  • Personal undergarments
  • Rain and windproof jacket/pants or Poncho*
  • Modest swimsuit/shorts


SHOES

  • Hiking sandals (optional) 
  • Hiking or tennis shoes adequate for sand and trail hiking
  • Socks (wicking/wool recommended) – 3-4 pairs

  • Flip flops optional for campground area


SLEEPING

  • One Sleeping bag/sleeping mat/small camping pillow
  • Tent per couple with rainfly (2-4 person tent recommended. 6 person tent is the max)

 

COOKING AND FOOD

  • Mug/aluminum cup AND sturdy camping plate/ bowl (must hold hot liquids)
  • Spork
  • Water bottle or hydration pack to hold 2 liters of water (arrive with water FULL on Friday)*
  • 4M will provide all food (If you have a restricted diet/allergies, you must alert 4M and may need to bring supplemental food for yourself)


HYGIENE AND CARE

  • Toiletries 
  • Toilet paper/Sanitizer/Hand wipes (we will not always be around the campground restrooms)*
  • Personal Meds/Pain Meds as needed*
  • Items to prevent blisters
  • Sunscreen/Chapstick*
  • Bug spray (recommend: Picaridin insect lotion)*

 

OTHER

  • Headlamp (recommended) or flashlight*
  • Towel for swimming 
  • Small chair/sitting pad/towel (transportable with daypack)*
  • Bible, pen, and notepad (in a Ziploc bag to keep Bible dry)*
  • Sunglasses and hat*
